Maximum Loss — trailing floor, 10%
The Maximum Loss floor is recalculated every midnight CE(S)T. It equals:
Floor = max(highest closing balance so far, initial capital) − 10% of initial capital
The floor can only move up — never down. Intraday floating P&L doesn't affect it.
Example — $100,000 account
- Day 1: Initial $100k → floor = $90,000
- Day 2: Close at $104k → floor = $94,000 ↑
- Day 3: Close at $103k → floor stays $94,000 (uses higher of Day 1/2)
Maximum Daily Loss — 3% of initial capital
Key differentiator
The daily loss limit resets every midnight CE(S)T based on the previous day's closing balance:
Daily limit = previous midnight balance − 3% of initial capital
Unlike the Max Loss, the daily limit can go up or down with the balance. Floating open positions do not count.
Example — $100,000 account
- Day 1: $100k − $3k = limit $97,000
- Day 2: closed at $102k → limit $99,000
- Day 3: closed at $101k → limit $98,000
Note: standard FTMO Challenge has a 5% daily loss limit — the 1-Step's 3% requires tighter daily risk management in exchange for a single-phase path to funding.
Best Day Rule — max 50% of total profit in one day
To pass the 1-Step Challenge (or to be eligible for a Reward on the FTMO Account), your single most profitable day must not exceed 50% of your total profits on the account.
Exceeding the limit is not a breach — you simply need to keep trading until the Best Day is ≤ 50% of total profit.
Example
- Day 1: +$7,000 · Day 2: +$2,000 · Day 3: −$1,000 · Day 4: +$2,000
- Total profit = $10,000. Best Day (Day 1) = 70% → rule not satisfied.
- You must trade on until total profit ≥ $14,000 (so Day 1's $7k ≤ 50%).
Best Day Rule applies to both the FTMO Challenge: 1-Step and the FTMO Account: 1-Step.
