Wyckoff Across Forex, Crypto, Stocks, Commodities
Same Wyckoff, 4 Different Vehicles

Asset Class Adaptations

Wyckoff's framework is universal — institutional behavior is the same everywhere. But each asset class has structural quirks that change HOW signals manifest. Apply forex rules to crypto and you'll get hunted on weekends. Apply stock rules to FX and you'll wonder where the volume went.

"The framework is the constant. The calibration is per-instrument." — Wyckoff applied to modern multi-asset trading

Why Calibration Matters

The Wyckoff principles (Supply/Demand, Cause/Effect, Effort/Result) apply to every liquid market. But the practical execution differs because:

  • Volume reliability varies — stocks have real volume, FX doesn't, crypto has wash trading
  • Sessions vary — 24/5 FX, 24/7 crypto, 6.5h US stocks, exchange hours for futures
  • Participants vary — Commercials in commodities, central banks in FX, retail-heavy in crypto
  • Catalysts vary — earnings for stocks, rate decisions for FX, on-chain for crypto, OPEC for oil

Mistakes When Porting Strategy Across Classes

Where multi-asset traders bleed by applying one-class rules to another.

Trading FX volume as if it were stock volume
Stocks have centralized real volume — every trade reported. FX has only tick volume (broker-specific, manipulable). VSA on FX needs futures (6E, 6B, 6J) as volume proxy or COT positioning instead.
Trading crypto Springs without weekend awareness
Crypto runs 24/7. Weekend liquidity drops 40-60%. "Springs" formed Saturday/Sunday are often manipulation by whales targeting thin order books — NOT smart money accumulation.
Applying earnings-cycle rules to forex
FX has no earnings season. Pre-position rules based on quarterly results don't translate. FX cycles are driven by central bank meetings (FOMC/ECB/BOE) — different timing, different flow patterns.
Ignoring BTC dominance when trading altcoins
Every alt = leveraged BTC + narrative. A perfect altcoin Wyckoff setup invalidates instantly if BTC dumps. Always check BTC dominance + BTC HTF bias before any alt trade.
Treating commodity COT same as forex COT
In commodities, Commercials = actual producers/consumers (Exxon, Cargill). Their positions reflect physical hedging needs, not speculation. In FX, Commercials are global banks — different motive.
Trading crypto on the same TF as stocks
Crypto's 24/7 + 3-10% daily volatility means a "5m setup" carries more risk than a stocks 5m. Bump up at least one TF when porting from stocks to crypto. Daily/4H is the floor for crypto Wyckoff.
Ignoring contango/backwardation in commodity futures
A "breakout" in crude oil futures can be artificial — caused by roll date, not real demand. Always verify against spot/cash prices when trading futures-based commodity Wyckoff.
